Zombies and Sheens and Angry Birds, oh my! That’s right, it’s Halloweekend, and it seems everyone and their fairy godmother is throwing a themed event, which can make it quite confuzzling as to which soiree will be the most enchanting. But fear not! We scoured the land for events off the trodden path yet still in your ‘hood, and scavenged one per day to give you a daily dose of cosplay all Halloweekend long.
Friday 10/28 – ‘Stache Bash
‘Stache Bash @ Joe’s Bar (940 W. Weed St.) – What do you get when you cross Halloween with a Livestrong Charitable event? The annual “Stache Bash Movember kickoff party (bet you thought we were going to say Big Bird). Come in your favorite costume, or if you don’t have one, they will be happy to give you a stick-on ‘stache at the door. For more info on this crazy good time, watch the video below.
Saturday 10/29 – Burton Bash
Burton Bash @ Casey Morans (3660 N. Clark St.) – Rumor has it that if Tim Burton gets cut he literally bleeds Halloween, so it seems just fitting to have a Halloween Bash celebrating the man whose filmography brought kitschy, creepy creatures straight into the mainstream. It’s free to attend, or tickets can be bought for $30, which include open bar and a “Burton buffet”.
Sunday 10/30 – 13 Terrors Haunted House
13 Terrors Haunted House @ Theater on the Lake (2401 North Lake Shore Drive) – Thursday Oct. 27th to Monday Oct 31st – This Lincoln Park lakefront theater used to be a real sanitarium. We’re not sure what a sanitarium is, but Metallica made a song about it so it must be scary. Nonetheless, 13 Terrors runs from 6:30-9:30pm, making it perfect for getting your daily dose of Halloween on Sunday and still having enough time to rest up for work on Monday.
Monday 10/31 – Halloween on Halsted Parade
Halloween on Halsted Parade (Halsted from Belmont to Barry) – The best part of this Halloween Day parade is that anyone (and their little dog too) can march as part of it. The parade itself is from 7-8pm, but if you plan on marching in it, be outside Spin Nightclub between 5-6pm to check in. Post-parade there will be a “fun and frightening” stage show and prizes for costumes in various categories including Best Pet, Best Drag, Scariest, and Most Original Costume.
Whatever you end up doing this weekend, we hope that you have a safe, silly, and spooktacular time. And, if you have any great Halloweekend events you’d like to tell us about, post them in a comment below or on our Facebook page.
