What’s New in Lakeview!

Spring has finally (almost) sprung in Chicago, and along with the signs of life that are starting to emerge from the trees and ground, new bars and restaurants are popping up everywhere!  Few things in life are more exciting than discovering a new favorite local hotspot, and there are tons of fun new options for our residents in Lakeview and Lincoln Park to try!  Here are just a few of the hot new establishments within walking distance of our Lakeview apartments!
Fish Bar – 2956 N. Sheffield Ave. www.fishbarchicago.com
This heavily hyped spot has been packed to the gills since its opening last month.  The latest culinary vision from the guys behind DMK Burger Bar next door has an East Coast seaside raw bar shack feel, and reels in some of the freshest seafood you can find in the Midwest.  With offerings like ceviche, raw or fried clams, oyster po’boys and lobster rolls, there is something to satisfy just about every seafood craving.  The homemade key lime pie provided by Mindy of Hot Chocolate fame is the best you’ll find outside of Florida.  Be warned, there are only 2 tables (the rest of the seating is at the counter) so it is best for pairs.  Tip:  Try it for lunch to avoid the crazy long wait times!
Kanela Breakfast Club – 3231 N. Clark St. www.kanelacafe.com
Where the infamous Orange once stood in Lakeview is now another yummy brunch spot with a Greek flair.  Open daily for breakfast and lunch, this mellow spot features delectable pastries, savory omelettes and unique spins on the breakfast standards (see bacon waffle with bourbon caramel sauce, pork belly benedict, banana split crepes = YUM!).   Kanela is BYOB for now pending a full liquor license, but will soon offer a variety of yummy cocktails to complement their tasty food offerings.  I can’t wait!
Al’s #1 Italian Beef – 3420 N. Clark St. www.alsbeef.com
The Northside’s first location of this famous Chicago chain opened just in time for the Cubs’ home opener.  It serves up the same Chicago staples as the eatery’s other locations, including Polish Sausage, Chicago dogs, and of course, Al’s famous Italian Beef Sandwiches – a mouth-watering treat that was invented by these guys.  And naturally, they do it best.
