What Exactly Do Reindeer Do? – A Holiday Event Guide

The chestnuts are roasting and the sugar-plums are dancing.  The stockings are hung and the reindeer are, well, doing whatever reindeer do.  It’s Christmastime in Chicago, and we couldn’t be more excited.   The whole city is aglow for the holidays (our buildings included) and many of our favorite ongoing holiday events are up and running for the season.  Here’s a list of the best of the best, all of which are perfect for all ages.  So spread that holiday cheer and bring your family, friends, or that special someone.  Or bring all of them…together.  Or maybe not together.  But no matter who you decide to go with, rest assured that at any of these events a good time will be had by all.
Zoo lights @ Lincoln Park Zoo – Walking distance from many of our buildings, Lincoln Park Zoo has ferocious and fluffy attractions that light up the faces of kids big and small all year long.  Evenings in December are extra-special when the zoo itself is decked out and lit up with holiday lights.  A spectacle indeed, Zoo Lights runs Friday to Sunday up until December 11th, and then daily from Dec 16th to Jan 1st from 5-9pm each night.
Christkindlmarket @ Daley Plaza  – A traditional open-aired Christmas festival, the Christkindlmarket runs every day from now until Christmas Eve.  It’s a great place to pick up interesting and/or handmade Christmas gifts and decorations all while getting cultured on German culture.  The food there is splendid, consisting of sausages, spiced cider (and grown-up cider), chocolates, and more.  It is open from 11-8pm Sunday to Thursday, and 11-9pm Friday and Saturday.
The Rink @ Wrigley – If you asked us which PPM neighborhood (Lakeview, Gold Coast, or Lincoln Park) we liked best, it’d be impossible to answer; each has its own flair.  But when it comes to the outdoor ice skating rinks in our PPM neighborhoods, it’s easy – The one at the home of the Northside’s own Chicago Cubs – The Rink at Wrigley Field.  The park district ices over the north parking lot at Wrigley for a public skate that is open daily until 9pm or later all winter long.  We think it is genius.  We also think the Cubs are taking the pennant next year.  Just saying.
Winter Wonderfest @ Navy Pier    This indoor event at Navy Pier runs the gamut on holiday cheer.  They have trees, decorations, and St. Nick variations from around the world.  They have Christmas carolers, an ice rink, and carnival rides.  And, they have the jolly man himself.  (His belly really does jiggle like a bowl filled with jelly.  We checked.)  Winter Wonderfest is so much fun that we’re exhausted just thinking about it.  The fest is open daily from now until January 8th.
However you spend the holiday season, we wish you the best.  And If you attend any of these great events, let us know what you think.  You can comment below or tell us on Facebook or Twitter.
