DIY Natural Shampoo Recipe For Happy Hair

Chicago Apartments, Homemade Healthy Shampoo

Shampoo choice is a pretty personal thing. There are so many variables at play when it comes to determining the type of shampoo you use, how often you wash your hair and even the method in which you apply it to your hair. However, we all share some similar hair goals — healthy, “happy” hair. No matter what type of hair you have, you probably know that over-shampooing your hair can strip it of its natural oils and dry it out (among other issues). One solution to this issue is using a gentler, natural DIY natural shampoo instead of the bottled stuff.

Not only is natural shampoo a good way to maintain your hair’s natural oils—but it’s also free of harsh chemicals, which are present in many well-known shampoo brands.

Here is a simple recipe for a natural DIY shampoo that uses basic household ingredients you may already have in your apartment.

Simple DIY Natural Shampoo:

¼ cup water
¼ cup castile soap (like Dr. Bronner’s)
1 tsp. light vegetable oil or glycerine
5-10 drops of your favorite essential oil (we love using lavender)

Add ingredients into a bottle that’s good for storing shampoo. If you’d like, you can reuse an old shampoo bottle after cleaning it out. Shake well! When using this shampoo, pour some onto your head and use your hands to massage it into your scalp before rinsing.
