Somehow, we’ve made it to the end of 2020, and now’s the time to figure out your end-of-year plans. For many of us, New Year’s Eve is a boozy holiday spent celebrating with friends and family in crowded bars. But this year is different for everyone. Since lots of us will spend New Year’s Eve at home in our apartments, we wanted to offer some advice for making the most of it. Here are our tips for how to spend New Year’s Eve at home.

Get Fancy

Lounge wear has become the unofficial uniform for 2020. New Year’s Eve is usually an excuse to dress up, and this year doesn’t have to be any different. Put away your quarantine sweats for the night and break out one of your favorite going-out outfits to wear at home. It’s probably been a while since you put on anything fancy, so enjoy it. And don’t be alarmed if you’re surprised by how well you clean up.

Make Your Favorite Drink

Champagne is the typical drink of choice of New Year’s Eve. If that’s your go-to, toast away. But since this year is different, we suggest switching things up with your libations. Instead of going the traditional route, shop ahead of time and treat yourself to your favorite cocktail right at home. Don’t have a favorite drink? Here are a few low-calorie cocktails we love.

Cook Something Tasty

What better way to spend New Year’s Eve at home than by indulging in some of your favorite eats? If you ask us, comfort food is the way to go. We also suggest baking something sweet to enjoy with your drink of choice. And you can’t go wrong with homemade salsa. Whatever you prefer to chow down on, make a plan to whip it up in your own kitchen to celebrate the end of 2020.

Watch the Ball Drop

If you normally watch the ball drop at midnight, that’s one tradition you won’t need to change. And if you normally miss it, this is the year to catch the annual Times Square countdown.

Binge-Watch Movies

Ring in the new year in ultimate relaxation mode by binge-watching films from the comfort of your couch. The holiday season isn’t over yet, so check out these holiday films you can still catch on Netflix.

Schedule Screen Time with Friends

While you may not be able to spend the holiday with your friends IRL, you can still see them through a screen. Be it Zoom, Facetime, Google Meet, or another platform, a virtual call will make your New Year’s Eve all the more memorable.
