Soupbox – Gold Coast and Lakeview

There is nothing better on a cold day than warm homemade soup and there is no better place, in our opinion, then the Soupbox!  WE could eat soup all year round – hearty soups (loaded baked potato), light soups (chicken noodle), Thai soups (tom YUM), Vietnamese soups (chao & bun bo hue), Korean soups (rice cake and dumpling soup) the list goes on and on. So the concept is that they make fresh soup daily (approx 20 different soups per day) hence the name SoupBox, but during the hot summer months they also make this delicious homemade mixture between an Italian ice and a Slurpee with real chunks of fruit mixed in. YUM. Chicagoans refer to them as IceBox during the hot months. Isn’t that cool?!?!?!
We felt like kids in a candy store as soon as we walked in. They even encouraged us (forced us) to sample each soup flavor before making my final choice. The soups were ALL AMAZING! I was torn between the beef stew, lobster bisque, and chicken with wild rice……they even mix soups together!!! I wasn’t that adventurous but the soup man tells you which soups make good combinations together (i.e. lobster bisque and clam chowder)

We settled on the beef stew, clam chowder and potato and leek.  We ordered all three in the multi-grain soup bowl – we loved the fresh warm bread bowl and ate every last crumb! The New England Clam Chowder was thick and rich with fresh clams, potatoes, onion and celery in a cream base that was truly outstanding

The Hearty Beef Stew was awesome!  WE loved the slow roasted beef, carrots, potatoes and peas with a touch of onion in beef stock that was super filling!

The Potato and leek was creamy and full of yummy veggies and huge chunks of potatoes and it was full of taste.

To sum up – Soupox truly hits the spot on a cold Chicago Day!  All soups are homemade ant tasty and when you pair them with sourdough or multi-grain bread, they make a fulfilling meal!  When you couple great food with outstanding service the outcome will always be AWESOME – go there today!
