Some Irish & Some Chi-Rish – St. Patrick’s Day Chicago Events

Here at PPM, we love any reason to celebrate.  We celebrate our residents.   We celebrate every National Fill-In-the-Blank Day (even the ones that overlap).   Heck, we even celebrate Tuesdays, and we don’t know anyone else who celebrates Tuesdays.   So when it comes time to celebrate the man who drove the snakes from the Irish Isles, we’re all about it.  But let’s be honest, if you live in one of PPM’s Chicago neighborhoods (Lakeview, Lincoln Park, and the Gold Coast) you can find a great Chi-Rish bar with green beer just by stepping out your door.  And although we love Erin go Braugh with the bros, we decided to look for some events with a little more flair this St. Patrick’s Day.  Here’s what we came up with (in no particular order).
1.)    Wilde St. Patrick’s Day Celebration (3130 N. Broadway) – This one is a combination of real deal Irish and with a little Chi-Rish fun.  Upscale Irish food, Irish dancers, Green face paint, and a bunch of craic (whatever that is).  But word to the wise, if you plan on getting a meal, make reservations.
2.)    The Dyeing of the Chicago River and St. Patrick’s Day Parade  – They’re Chicago classics; we couldn’t leave them off the list.  The river dyeing starts at 10am and the parade is at noon.  Also, check out this time-lapse.  It’s pretty cool.

3.)    Brunch @ Frasca Pizzeria (3358 N. Paulina) – One day a year Frasca makes their infamous Guiness pizza – a Guinness stout crust topped with béchamel sauce, onions, fingerling potatoes, bacon, three cheeses and egg.  Traditional Irish food will also be served.
4.)    St. Patrick’s Day with Red Rebel County @ Ace Bar (1505 W. Fullerton) – Honest to goodness Irish musicians covering honest to goodness Irish punk and rock bands (Dropkick Murphys, Pogues, Flogging Molly, Etc.)  The band themselves warn that “this show isn’t for the faint of heart.”  Sounds like a challenge to us.  Show starts at 11pm.
5.)    St. Patty’s Day 5K and 8K Run/Walk and Leprechaun Leap – We’re not sure if people are leaping Leprechauns or if it’s the Leprechauns that are doing the leaping, but we’re happy to watch either.  This one is actually on Sunday the 18th in Lincoln Park.  It is also very family friendly.
We’d love to hear how you plan on celebrating St. Patrick’s Day.  Leave a comment below, or on our Facebook page or Twitter feed.    But whatever you do, have fun and stay safe, and if your plans involve (over)indulging we recommend checking out this guide for great info on 5pm hangover prevention.
