Chicago is filled with some of the most amazing and unique parks in the world. From the slick style of Millennium Park to the unique Osaka Garden in Hyde Park, it’s hard not to love these amazing places. Yet there is one park that is not only unique but has an amazing backstory. This is of course is OZ Park, situated right in the heart of Lincoln Park at 2021 N. Burling St. Oz Park is truly a Chicago marvel.
What makes OZ Park so distinctive? First its history, the author, L. Frank Baum was a resident of Lincoln Park in the late 1800’s. During his time in Chicago he wrote what went to be an American classic, The Wizard of Oz. That’s right L. Frank Baum wrote the Wizard of Oz right here in Chicago and to commemorate this truly outstanding story, the city built a whole park themed around the story. From a castle playground to the famous statues of our favorite characters, Oz Park is a reminder that Chicago was and still is at the forefront of creative ingenuity and imagination.
Starting in 1995 artist John Kearney was commissioned to create the now famous statues you see walking through the park.
