New to Chicago? Here Are Some Helpful Links!

With summer winding down, we know many people are moving to Chicago to start classes, do an internship, or begin a new job. With that in mind, we thought we’d compile a list of some helpful links, apps, and websites for Chicago newbies to help you get settled in and acting like a true Chicagoan in no time!
First up, let’s cover the basics: 
City of Chicago webpage – everything you ever wanted to know (and probably more!) about Chicago can be found on the City of Chicago webpage.
City Stickers – if you were brave enough to keep your car, get a city sticker… FAST. Don’t forget that in many of the Lincoln Park, Lakeview, and Gold Coast neighborhoods you’ll need a residential zone parking permit in addition to a city sticker.
Chicago Neighborhood Map – Chicago has neighborhood pride. One of the first things you’ll discover when you meet people is that they will ask you, “hey, what neighborhood to you live in?” Take a minute to check out the Chicago neighborhood map and get familiar with the city! This map is a staple for apartment decor in Chicago. So be sure and get yours and learn the neighborhoods!
Helping You Get Around… 
CTA Trip Planner – if you need to know how to get from point A to point B on public transportation, the CTA Trip Planner will be a lifesaver. Bookmark it now. Simply type in where you are and where you want to go (they have many Chicago hot spots already programmed in for your convenience) and it will tell you how to get their by bus or train. GoogleMaps also offers this feature, when you’re searching for directions, tell Google you want to get there via public transportation on your iPhone. The CTA also has a number of apps available for your smartphone. Check them out here.
Zipcar – if you opted to embrace the urban life and ditched your car, Zipcar can help you get wheels when you need them. Zipcar has cars [and vans!] you can rent by the horu or the day when you need to get around the city or make a trek to IKEA in the suburbs. [Note that Zipcars are conveniently located at many of Planned Property’s high rise buildings!]
Uber – if you need to ride in style, look no further. Uber provides rides in town cars and limousines at taxi rates. Get your own personal driver whenever you need one, or need to impress.
Food and Entertainment
metromix – want to know what’s going on around town? Check out metromix, the complete ‘everything Chicago’ site. Check out what’s going on around town, restaurants, events, music, movies, theater and more. Also, check out the metromix app.
GrubHub – don’t feel like cooking? Let GrubHub help you find exactly what you are looking for from hundreds of restaurants nearby. They save you the trouble of surfing websites and offer free delivery from many neighborhood restaurants. Come winter, you’ll fall in love with GH. You can get GrubHub on the go, too!
Groupon – deals galore. A great way to discover new restaurants, businesses, and entertainment around the city — and save money! — is through Groupon. Every day new deals are served up from this Chicago-based group savings site. [Pro tip: Don’t use Groupons on dates, that’s tacky].
StubHub – need tickets to a end-of-season Cubs game or a sold-out concert? Check out StubHub!
Staying Up-To-Date
RedEye – necessary reading everyday. Pick up a free copy on your way to the El, or at hundreds of other locations across the city every weekday. Also, download the RedEye app for other great features and content.
TimeOut Chicago -another great resource for the latest news and events happening in the city. If you need to know what’s happening, take some Time Out to check this out!
