New Films and Television Shows Shot in Chicago

One great thing about living in the city of Chicago is that it is often the site of movies and television shows. And maybe you claim you’re not star struck and that celebrities walking the streets of Chicago doesn’t really do it for you, but can you deny how exciting it is to see a Chicago backdrop in a movie?
It’s kind of thrilling. Something as silly as a girl on the Bachelor filming on Rush Street is enough for me to feel like Chicago is exciting.
But there are some much bigger names and much more recognizable faces walking the streets and you’re about to see our amazing city in quite a few movies and television shows in the coming year.

A Conspiracy on Jekyll Island

A film starring Ed Westwick (from Gossip Girl), Dianna Agron (from Glee), and Minnie Driver. Many Chicagoans have tweeted pictures with Westwick and rumor has it they will be in the city sporadically this winter.

Chicago Fire

A television show I’m sure you’re familiar with and whose white vans and film equipment seem to be a staple on the streets of Chicago lately. Starring Taylor Kinney, Jesse Spencer, Monica Raymund, and Lauren German, to name a few. Maybe even more exciting that the cast is the fact that Lady Gaga is often spotted around Chicago (I hear she loves Karyn’s Cooked!!!) because of her boyfriend, Taylor Kinney.

Betrayal

If you’ve ever watched Betrayal you know that they feature A LOT of the city. From the river, to public transportation, to the streets, they’re everywhere. Stars include Stuart Townsend, Hannah Ware, and Chris J. Johnson. I heard a rumor the cast lives in a building on Wells St. near the new Plum Market and are often spotted in the area.

Transformers 4

Age of Extinction: if you live in the city you could not have missed this being filmed in Chicago this summer. One day helicopters were circling the river for hours. Also, Chinese characters were placed to make the city look like a city in China. It was pretty hard to miss. The movie hits theaters this June.

Divergent

Not only was this movie filmed in Chicago (hits theaters this March) but the author, Veronica Roth, went to Barrington High School as well as Northwestern and had pictured the city of Chicago as a back drop when she wrote the trilogy. People have compared the books (and the movie) to that of Twilight and Hunger Games, so be on the look out!

Jupiter Ascending

Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis were in Chicago filming it this past Summer. I’m sorry to ruin your day if you weren’t lucky enough to get a glimpse of them. The movie is set to be released this July.
