For our next installment of our Neighborhood Restaurant Reviews, our fearless eaters, along with a guest reviewer, headed to Falafill, located at Broadway & Belmont in Lakeview.
Falafill was conceived by renowned chef Maher Chebaro, who is the chef and owner of fine dining restaurants both here in Chicago and Beirut, Lebanon and has locations in the Loop (72 E. Adams) and in Oak Park.
When you step into Falfill you’ll walk right past the Mezza Bar, filled with beautifully-colored salads and sauces that are fresh and raw, and expertly made by Falfill chefs every day.
Think of Falafill as a Middle Eastern version of Chipotle.
You start by picking your fill… there’s falafel, a staple in the Middle Eastern diet. a falafel is a simple mixture of herbs and chickpeas that is blended together and fried. You can also opt for curry falafel, which is rich and full of curry flavor. Both are falafel options are delicious and great for vegetarians. Or, for the carnivorous, you can choose from fresh-grilled steak, turkey, or spicy sausage.
The fill of your choice can be put into a pita and topped with the sauces and salads of your choice from the Mezza Bar, or you can opt for a bowl and fill it up to your heart’s content.
If you’re not feeling creative, you can also choose to get a wrap, each filled with delicious, fresh ingredients.
Each option can be made into a combo with a drink and the side of your choice for an extra $3.50. Sides include fries, soup, or rice.
Falafill also does a Chef for Charity wrap each month where local Chicago celebrity chefs collaborate on a unique wrap of his or her creation which we feature on our menu for an entire month. Proceeds of each wrap sold benefit a charity of each chef’s choosing. It’s an opportunity to try Falafill in a different way while also getting a taste of the food of some of the most celebrated restaurant chefs in the city.
