Summer isn’t over just yet. August has arrived, and it’s a month filled with free offerings and activities around the city. Check out some free stuff to do in Chicago this August before the temperatures drop and the season changes.
Millennium Park Concerts (August 6-16)
If you haven’t caught any of the free shows happening in Millennium Park this summer, now’s your final chance. August will feature performers Bahamas, Bad Bad Hats, Whitney, and The Sea and the Cake, plus more. Take advantage of one of the city’s best free events before the summer’s over.

Chicago Air & Water Show (August 18-19, 10 am – 3 pm)
As the largest free show of its kind, the Chicago Air & Water Show is not to be missed. North Avenue Beach serves as the focal point of the show, but it can be viewed along the lakefront from Fullerton to Oak Street. Notable headliners this year include the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, the U.S. Navy Parachute Team Leapfrogs, and the U.S. Army Parachute Team Golden Knights, plus many other performers.

Chicago Hot Dog Fest (August 10-12)
Come together to celebrate the famous Chicago-Style hot dog at the 6th annual Chicago Hot Dog Fest at Stockton and LaSalle Drive, presented by the Chicago History Museum. This year’s celebration highlights the 125th anniversary of the Chicago-Style dog’s premiere at the 1893 World’s Fair. You’ll have the opportunity to experience an assortment of dog styles and recipes from over a dozen different vendors. When you’re done with your dogs, enjoy a lineup of local and touring artists for your entertainment. Note: Admission is free, but tickets are required to purchase your dogs and drinks.
