Living in Chicago – Laughs and Booze

Do you like booze?  Do you like laughing? If you answered yes to either of those questions, keep reading…
One of the great things (and there’s a lot of them) about living on Chicago’s north side is that there are a multitude of specatular venues for standup and improv.  Here at Planned Property we’re a little goofy and love a good funny bone tickle, so that works out perfect for us.  And of course there’s the bigger name The Second City and Zanies, but a lot of the venues off the trodden trail in PPM neighborhoods (Lincoln Park, Lakeview, and the Gold Coast) offer cool and quirky shows you won’t find anywhere else.  We picked some of our favorites out of those cool and quirky shows for you to check out.  Each is reasonably priced, ongoing, and just happens to involve booze in some way.
Thirsty: The Premiere Improv Drinking Party (Apollo Theater @ 2540 N. Lincoln Ave) – The show has been described as “Who’s Line is It Anyway meets a box of wine”.  We would have been happy to get either or, but don’t mind a good two-for-one.   Fridays and Saturdays @ 10:30pm
pHlip cup (Comedy Theater @ 3110 N. Sheffield) – The main attraction to this Friday night improve show is the climactic competitive flip cup tournament played against audience members.  It’s a steal at $5 for students with a student ID or $10 for non-students.  Show starts at 10pm.
Jersey Shore The Musical – (Studio BE @ 3110 N. Sheffield) – Okay.  This one might not be standup or improv, but if you’re Snookin’ for a good time look no further than Studio BE for the critically acclaimed show about America’s favorite not-so-functional alcoholics.  This one’s perfect for juicehead gorillas and meatballs alike.  Shows are on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm.
Bye Bye Liver (Pub Theater @ 3220 N Lincoln Ave) – The name says it all at this weekly sketch comedy show that pays homage to all things libationary.  And a show like this isn’t complete without drink specials…which they have aplenty.  Fridays and Saturdays @ 8pm and 10pm.
If you’ve seen any of these shows, are going to see any of these shows, or have your own favorites, we’d love to hear about them.  Please leave a comment below, or on our Facebook page or Twitter feed.  Also, check out our YouTube channel.  We make silly videos.
