July might be my favorite month in Chicago because there is a never-ending list of things to do this month.
From festivals to farmers markets to concerts, you cannot possibly say that Chicago is boring in the summer.
Here is a list of a few of our favorite events going on this month.
But the list could go on forever so let us know if we missed any of your favorite July happenings!
Taste of Chicago
July 9-13, Grant Park; This event has 35 restaurants show casing some of their best food and a ton of awesome music. It’s free except for permanent concert seats. Headliners this year include Aloe Blacc, Janelle Monae, Jeff Tweedy and AWOLNATION.
The Ultimate Urban Scavenger Race: July 12; What better way to spend a day in the city than competing in this “amazing race” style competition. Prove how much you know about the windy city and get a group of friends together to compete. The finish line will have cash prizes, drinks and food and a costume contest. http://cnation.squarespace.com/chicago/
Downtown Art Festival
July 11-13, Michigan Avenue; A collection of 200 painters, sculptors, jewelers and food. Located at pioneer court, this event is always a success year after year. This would be a great event to take out of town friends to given it’s location (right on the mag mile!) but it’s also a great place to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Support local artists!
Parade of Boats
July 19, Navy Pier; Every year boats leave from the east end of navy pier for the race to Mackinac. Watch hundreds of boats set sail for navy pier. If you usually swear off the tourist destination, why not stop by for this unique and picturesque event?
Sheffield Avenue Festival
July 19-20; One of the many phenomenal festivals going on in Chicago this summer. This one boasts live music, food and drinks (of course), kids’ activities, as well as a garden and architectural tour, which sets it apart from other summer festivals and gives you another reason to attend!
