How to Avoid the Inevitable Cold Weather Weight Gain

With colder weather comes comfort food. A cold night can sometimes call for a chicken pot pie, fresh chocolate chip cookies, or a warm sugary Starbucks drink.
The colder it gets the more I end up eating and although the cold weather seems to last forever in Chicago, PPM’s pool season will be here before we know it.
So how do you occasionally indulge in the best cold-weather foods while avoiding the winter weight-gain? Lucky for us, many PPM buildings are equipped with Fitness Facilities. These facilities can be found at:

Even if you don’t live in one of these buildings, PPM still offers another option. If you mention that you’re a PPM resident at XSport Fitness, you’ll receive a special deal for residents only as well as at Chicago Health Foods. So no excuses!

If you’re the type of person who needs group activity to motivate you to stay in shape, there are plenty of places around Chicago that offer classes. We’ve researched some of the newest and hottest fitness trends around the city, check them out!
Barre Classes: barre is based off of a ballet-type workout and will give you a serious ab and lower body workout. Sometimes classes use yoga straps, weights, and exercise balls. Some courses are a yoga/ballet combination, others are pilates/ballet, but either way, expect to leave a barre class feeling sore.

Hot Yoga: perfect for those frigid Chicago days. Hot Yoga is a vigorous fast-paced yoga that is practiced in a room heated to about 105 degrees and a humidity of 40%.

Cross Fit: crossfit is a strength and conditioning program that has a very wide fitness scope. The program focuses on muscular strength, cardio-respiratory endurance, and flexibility. It is a constantly changing mix of aerobic exercise, gymnastics, body weight exercises, and weight lifting.
