Hottest Pad of 2010 – ONE BEDROOM WINNER – Mark G.
Congratulations to Mark for winning the ONE BEDROOM portion of our HOTTEST PAD OF 2010 Contest. The architect and vintage bike enthusiast lives at 632 West Addison, located in the heart of Lakeview. He used a few creative touches to decorate his space, which put him a head above the competition.
{PICTURE 1} As mentioned, Mark loves vintage bikes. While photographing his apartment, we were informed that he has 4 in total. He is able to store them on the wall, which eliminates clutter, and adds an extra piece of unique art to the apartment.
{PICTURE 2} The dining area is very calming with white curtains on 2 of the walls and chalkboard paint on the opposing walls. Fun and inspirational quotes fill up the dark space, making this the perfect place to entertain.
{PICTURE 3} The living room is very clean and simple. With virtually no clutter, guests are able to relax and watch a movie or chat about art and architecture.
{PICTURE 4} Mark’s love for photography is clearly displayed at his desk area. As an architect, he needs a large, clean space for work, and the lighting above, makes it the perfect place for sketching or even editing photos.
Below is Mark’s contest narrative, describing his One Bedroom apartment:

Finding a place in Chicago was tough. I looked at over 35 apartments from different rental companies and finally found the perfect one bedroom through Planned Property Management. Coming from a house, I was looking for a one bedroom that was not only spacious, but also had character and history. This apartment features beautifully laid out rooms with a formal foyer, large living area, separate dining room, and a quiet bedroom. Nothing highlights a space better than a bold wall color so I chose a Tiffany blue for the foyer, bedroom, and living room. The furniture, which came from my house fit well with the color scheme and the arrangement not only welcomes guests, but also highlights the very spacious living room. The dining room, where quiet dinner parties are held, has a homemade mixture of chocolate brown chalk board paint above an existing chair rail that compliments the blue of the bedroom and living rooms. To further tie in the blue from the living room and bedroom, a Tiffany blue border anchors the chocolate brown areas of the dining room walls. All these rooms, while formally arranged, feature soft touches such as tall curtains for windows as well as room dividers, welcoming guests to relax and enjoy. Perhaps my favorite touches in the apartment are the bicycles. I’m an avid biker and commute to work regularly. Since there is plenty of wall space, why not hang the bikes on the walls serving as both art and storage? All in all, I’m ecstatic about living in a great city, in a great apartment, and having a rental company that allows this type of design freedom.

Congratulations Mark! You did an amazing job combining your multiple passions into the perfect living space!

  1. I think that everything composed made a bunch of sense. But, what about this? suppose you were to create a killer title? I ain’t suggesting your content is not solid., but suppose you added a post title that grabbed a person’s attention? I mean Hottest Pad of 2010! ONE BEDROOM WINNER – Mark G. | PPM Apartments Blog is kinda vanilla. You could peek at Yahoo’s home page and see how they create article titles to get viewers to click. You might add a video or a related picture or two to get people interested about everything’ve written. Just my opinion, it could make your blog a little livelier.
