Homemade Eggshell Water for House Plants

Did you know plants need calcium? It’s true — calcium helps plants maintain a healthy cellular structure. Of course, we can’t go around pouring milk into our house plants. But there is another option: Eggshells! They’re naturally loaded with calcium, and since you’re already throwing them in the trash, why not use them to give your plants a boost? If you’re looking for a natural, easy way to feed your plants, consider making homemade eggshell plant water.

The next time you’re hard-boiling an egg, simply save the water after your egg is cooked. Once the water has cooled down, you can use that no calcium-rich water to hydrate your houseplants.

If you’re not already into eggs of the hardboiled variety, save your eggshells in a container after cracking them open. Crush them up into pieces, then pour hot water into the container. Allow the eggshells steep in the water overnight. The next day, you’ll have calcium-rich water to feed your plant babies!
