Thanks to the internet, there are lots of “fake holidays” happening on a near-daily basis. Examples include “National Pizza Day” and “International Dog Day” (neither of which we’re complaining about). Some of them get pretty weird and specific, like National Napping Day (March 9) or Awkward Moments Day (March 18). But there are some faux holidays that are very much worth celebrating, and Galentine’s Day is at the top of the list. What started out as “Parks and Recreation” episode has turned into an annual celebration of lady love. Galentine’s Day takes place on February 13 and celebrates platonic friendship the day before Valentine’s Day. You can celebrate it any way you want, but if you need some inspiration, here are our favorite suggestions. Happy Galentine’s Day, all!
If you love brunching with your friends, there’s no reason to save it for Sunday. Be like Leslie Knope, and celebrate Galentine’s Day with a waffle-filled breakfast spread for dinner. You can also offer pancakes, eggs, mimosas and all the other breakfast foods and drinks your brunch-loving heart desires.
Make-Your-Own Pizza Party
Dinner parties get a little more exciting when there’s a hands-on component involved. Host a make-your-own pizza night this Galentine’s Day and treat yourself and your crew to homemade pies. Make it simple by scooping up some pre-made crusts, tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and your toppings of choice at the grocery store. If you or your friends are on a low-carb diet, swap traditional crust for a cauliflower alternative (you can usually find these in the frozen aisle).
Fancy Dinner Party
When’s the last time you and your ladies had an excuse to dress up together? If you’re feeling fancy, host an elegant evening Galentine’s Day dinner in your apartment. Ask your guests to wear their favorite eveningwear and head to your place for a fine night of dining, dancing and drinks.
Keep it classy with a cocktail party at your apartment. Ask your ladies to wear their favorite cocktail dresses and serve some snacks on the side. If you’re looking for some lower-calorie cocktail options, check out these recipes.
Adult Slumber Party
You’re never too old for a slumber party. Galentine’s Day is a great excuse to revisit the joy of sleepovers with your friends. Invite your ladies over for a pajama party, complete with popcorn, games and movie marathons. Your guests don’t actually have to sleep over if you aren’t up for that. Enjoy the nostalgia until it’s time for everyone to head home to their own homes. It’s the best of both worlds.
