Do You Have The Winter Blues?

Have you been a little more tired or more hungry than usual? During this time of year many of us experience these symptoms, so don’t worry you’re not alone. This is generally caused from the lack of natural sunlight during these cold winter months. Now some of us are actually experiencing Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), or also known as the winter blues.
Now most of us may experience symptoms but only a few of us would actually be diagnosed with SAD. There are a few things you can do to help rid your body of these unwanted side effects winter brought.
We have talked before about how nutrition and activity levels can dramatically change your life but during this time of year it is so relevant. Besides nutrition and exercise, simply gaining a little more sunlight a day will be very helpful.
Light therapy is also a great treatment for this seasonal disorder. You can either purchase specialized fixtures or switch your common light bulbs with full spectrum light bulbs. Now these are more expensive than regular light bulbs but they provide light that is similar to natural sunlight.
This is a great time of year to do things you might not normally do like bowling or whirly ball. Use winter to your advantage and go get some friends together and have some fun! Oh and along the way, get rid of those winter blues.
