Winter is the unofficial season of staying home. Freezing cold temperatures make a cozy night in your apartment sound a whole lot better than braving the elements. While we love a good movie marathon, we know that an at-home date night can consist of a lot more than a Netflix binge. And between Valentine’s Day and the pandemic, we thought it was a good time to share some fun ways to spend time together a home. Here are a few creative date night ideas to try out with your partner.
At-Home Spa Night
What’s a better way to unwind from the workweek than a relaxing spa session? Fancy spa treatments are expensive, but you don’t have to leave your apartment to indulge in some self-care treatments. You and your partner can pamper yourselves right at home by having a spa night in your apartment with items like sheet masks, body scrubs and moisturizers. Manicures, pedicures and massages are some popular spa services you can easily do at home. You can also make some DIY face masks, like these oatmeal-based options.
Doing arts and crafts can be a great bonding experience for partners. You’ll both get to explore your creatives sides while making something together—no matter the end result. Hop on Pinterest and pick a craft project to get started.
Yoga at Home
Here’s another relaxing date night option: Have a yoga night at home. Thanks to the interest, you won’t have any problem finding an online yoga class to watch. Check out Youtube or some of our previous posts to get some ideas. Plan to relax and unwind together with some easy-going yoga moves.
Virtual Double Date
Missing double dates? Plan for a virtual one so you both can catch up with your favorite couple. While it’s not the same as an in-person hang, it’ll still be fun to see and speak to your friends virtually until you can spend time together again.
Next, we recommend purchasing a fun jigsaw puzzle to complete with your partner. There’s one for everything these days, from famous works of art to pretty much any theme you could imagine. Pick a favorite, pour some drinks, and watch your puzzle’s picture come to life as you piece it together.
Picnics are what date night dreams are made of, but during the wintertime in Chicago, the traditional outdoor picnic isn’t really an option. However, you can still take part in the ritual of sharing a meal atop a blanket on the ground. You just have to do it inside instead of outside, and your apartment is just the place for a cozy picnic date.
Another one of our favorite creative date night ideas is to have your own private game night with your partner. Unlike passing the time in front of a screen, playing a board game provides a great opportunity to connect and have fun at home. Some top choices (according to us) include Scrabble, Monopoly and Chess.
At-home date nights don’t have to be chill. You can party at home, too. One of our favorite suggestions is to have a private dance party in the comfort of your apartment. We suggest finding a nostalgic dance playlist on Spotify. Then, take advantage of the fact that you can dance like no one’s watching.
Cook a Meal Together
If you normally stick with take-out, cooking a meal together can be a new way to bond with your partner. Cook dinner together, bake a dessert or do both. Check out some of our favorite recipes below for some date night dinner inspiration:
