Dish sponges get dirty fast. Instead of tossing yours each time it gets gross, try one of these simple cleaning methods to sanitize your sponge and extend its lifespan. Here’s how to clean your dish sponge.
Clean Your Dish Sponge with Bleach
Our first tip involves cleaning and sanitizing your sponge with bleach. Start by mixing one gallon of water with ¾ cups of bleach. Then submerge it in the water and soak for five minutes. Lastly, remove it from the mixture and rinse it with clean water. Your sponge is now sanitized!
Microwave Your Dish Sponge
First, saturate your dish sponge in clean water. Next, place it in your microwave on the “High” setting for one to two minutes. Doing this rids your sponge of germs.
Use a Dishwasher
If you have a dishwasher, you’ll still need a sponge for cleaning off your countertops. When it’s time to clean your sponge, place it in your dishwasher along with a normal load, and set it to run at the “Heated Dry” setting. Ta-da! Your sponge is now clean.
