Living in Chicago – Deciding Between Chicago’s Best Neighborhoods

Chicago’s best neighborhoods – The Gold Coast, Lakeview, and Lincoln Park.  We recently made an amusing and informative video about a couple hard-pressed to choose between them.  Watch it below.  And after the video check out our detailed descriptions of each of these fabulous neighborhoods.

Gold Coast

It’s no accident that the Gold Coast has the word “gold” in its name.  Located along the Magnificent Mile and Lake Michigan, the neighborhood is the epitome of all things upscale and luxurious.  Offering access to the best shopping in the country and home to award-winning restaurants along Rush Street, the Gold Coast also known for celebrity sighting and its high energy.  A celebrity in itself, the Gold Coast has a Starbucks coffee blend named after it that is both “sophisticated” and “intensely satisfying”.

Home to the country’s largest concentration of people ages 24-34, Lakeview is an active and vibrant neighborhood with a multitude of taverns, restaurants, trendy boutiques, and music venues.  But even with being the epicenter of young adult activity in Chicago, the neighborhood also has tree-lined streets, giving it a residential feel.  On a sunny day you can find Lakeview residents jogging and biking along the shoreline of Lake Michigan, or walking among the neighborhood shops.  Several smaller communities compose Lakeview, each with their own flair – including Wrigleyville, home of the Chicago Cubs, Lakeview East, West Lakeview, and North Halsted.

Lincoln Park

Three miles from the bustle of the Loop and the world-class shopping of the Magnificent Mile, Lincoln Park is tucked between Lakeview and the Gold Coast.  An affluent neighborhood with the highest per-capita income in the city, many people looking for Chicago apartments are lured to Lincoln Park for the high-ranking schools and invitingly leafy streets.  The neighborhood also has a variety of offerings that lend a balance that most other neighborhoods lack – Lincoln Park attracts students to DePaul University, professionals for the proximity to Chicago’s business district, and families for the excellent schools.

Tell us about your favorite Chicago neighborhood.  We’d love to hear your thoughts.  Comment below, or on our Facebook page or Twitter feed.  And to show our appreciation we have great contests and giveaways all of the time.

  1. The Gold Coast is pretty awesome…except the rent prices are so expensive, you can’t afford to leave your apartment to do any of the shopping/restaurants/bars!

  2. I love living in Lakeview! I’m steps to the lake, public transportation, dining, nightlife, and everything else I could wish for in a neighborhood!

  3. I love Lincoln Park for two reasons:
    1. all the parks and green space – I love to run
    2. proximity to Lincoln Park Zoo
I would never live anywhere else!
