So when I looked at my phone this morning – it said 0 degrees. 0!!!!!! Guess what people of Chicago? It’s only December – this weather is not going anywhere anytime soon. It feels like mother nature may be paying us back for the mild winter we had last year. In order to beat the brutally cold weather, we’ve come up with the best places to warm up around the city this winter:
Mindy’s Hot Chocolate
1747 N. Damen Ave
I’ve been to Mindy’s more than a few times and although there are hundreds of amazing restaurants in Chicago, I will always come back. The hot chocolate from Mindy’s is phenomenal and is served with house-made marshmallows which are to die for. And this isn’t run of the mill hot chocolate, you can choose dark chocolate, eggnog, Mexican, chai, the list goes on. And although the hot chocolate is it’s namesake, and will be sure to cure even the coldest Chicago weather, the food is out of this world as well.
449 N. Clark St.
XOCO is a Rickbayless restaurant, so you know it’s something special. The menu is simple and delicious and one of their specialties is the perfect winter antidote. Meal-in-a-bowl Caldos are basically a soup with a TON of stuff in it. Warm, delicious, and fairly priced for the area. Not only will the Caldos help your winter blues, but the churros, oh my god the churros. Don’t you dare leave here without a churro and chocolate dipping sauce.
50 E. Chicago Ave & 2943 N. Broadway St.
With 12 fresh soups made daily, it’s hard to beat on a cold winter day. Not only that, but you can add a grilled cheese and have a meal that’s under $10. A delicious meal, I might add.
340 W. Armitage Ave.
Arguably one of the most romantic restaurants in the city. Gejas has so much charm – the inside can only be described as cozy. What more could you want on a bitter cold day? How about fondue? Cheese and chocolate fondue will have you warmed up in no time. Although pricey, Gejas is totally worth it. And if you like them on facebook, you get a coupon! Can’t beat it!
