The day after Thanksgiving is usually a slow one for us. We’re all full and sleepy from all the turkey, side dishes and drinks we’ve consumed. It’s not abnormal to feel bloated, puffy and a little bit “blah” the day after indulging in delicious, not-so-nutritious eats. If you’re like us, you may want to give your body a break from all the food you’ve been enjoying and focus on hydration while you continue digesting yesterday’s delicious meals. To help give you some hydration inspiration, we’ve gathered together five of the best drinks for the morning after Thanksgiving. These drinks don’t claim to be magical or “detoxifying,” however, they can offer benefits like digestive support, energy boosts and inflammation relief. They’re also super easy to make, so you can get back to binging Netflix on the couch again in no time.
Water With Lemon
First, let’s begin with one of the most basic and best drinks for the morning after boozing and eating — lemon water. While plain water is the ultimate natural hydration source, the addition of lemon gives it some extra benefits. Lemon juice is antioxidant-rich, and it’s full of Vitamin C, which can be especially beneficial if your immune system has taken a bit of a beating. Another particularly timely benefit to drinking lemon water the day after Thanksgiving is that it can aid in digestion.
Next, we recommend brewing green tea the morning after Thanksgiving. The benefits of green tea are abundant — It’s full of catechins, an antioxidant believed to help combat cell damage. Additionally, studies have shown that it can help improve circulation, which is extra important when your body is feeling a little under the weather.
Similarly to green tea, ginger tea is another one of the best drinks for the morning after Thanksgiving. Ginger is well-touted as a digestion enhancer. A bit of ginger tea can help ease an upset tummy, so if you’re feeling a little sick after eating or drinking too much the night before, ginger tea should be your new go-to drink.
This orange carrot and turmeric juice is both beautiful and delicious. It’s also full of nutritious ingredients that can help you feel your best. Turmeric is widely regarded for its anti-inflammatory properties, along with a ton of other benefits. It’s full of protein, plus vitamins like potassium and manganese. It’s believed to help with things like joint pain, body cramps and even depression symptoms. Both carrots and oranges are also full of Vitamin C. Together, these three healthy foods create a powerful, nutrient-packed juice that’s perfect for consuming after overeating and drinking.
Last but not least is this green juice recipe we love. We’ve previously referred to is as “the only green juice recipe you need,” and we still stand by that claim. The recipe includes spinach, kale and cucumbers along with lemon, apple and ginger. Together, the ingredients make up a delicious drink that can provide your body with the boost it needs after indulging in unhealthy holiday meals.
