When the holidays come around, many of us decorate our homes with festive decor. So why not do the same thing for each season? Giving your apartment a little refresh at the beginning of a new season is a good way to keep your space safe from feeling stale. It’s also a nice time to try out a trend or experiment with some new ideas. You don’t have to do anything too extreme — small adjustments and decorations around your home can make a big difference, and they can help you to fully experience the joys of the current season. Today is the first day of summer, and in honor of the occasion, we’re showing you how simple it is to give your apartment a summer refresh. Celebrate the start of the summer season by making your home the ultimate summer destination (relatively speaking, of course). It only comes once a year, so let’s soak it up while we can.
Try An Accent Wall
If you’ve been toying with the idea of adding an accent wall to your apartment, summer is a great time to give it a shot. Accent walls in bright colors bring a cheerful, summery feeling right into your own apartment. Another option for an accent wall is to use wallpaper — either permanent or temporary — in a summery print. Think florals or bold, bright motifs.
Add Some Blooms
The quickest way to give your apartment a summer refresh is to bring some blooms into your space. Choose summer florals in colors you love to brighten the room and help get you into that summer mindset. We love the look of fresh peonies in a vase. Other great summer floral options include sunflowers, hydrangeas, and garden roses. If you’re not into florals, pick up some cheap summery items at a thrift shop, like seashells or another beachy object, to bring those summer vibes home.
Clean Out Clutter
The summer aesthetic is all about easy, breezy vibes. Clutter is not conducive to a summery apartment. Now is the time to remove any buildup of clutter around your home. Check out our post on Marie Kondo’s tidying up method here if you need some help getting started.
Consider Fruit Decor
Want a cheap way to give your apartment an instant dose of summer? Scoop up some fruits and display them in a bowl in your home to add a touch of cheerful color to your home. Any fruit will do, but we recommend choosing tropical varieties to really bring that feeling of summer inside your space. Try pineapples, mangoes, and other bright-colored fruits.
Summer Scents
There are some scents that go hand-in-hand with summer. You can enjoy the sweet smells of summer inside your home with the help of scented candles. Bring the beach home with a sea-salt infused candle, or capture the essence of a warm summer day with a floral-scented candle. No matter what your preferred summer smells may be, there is bound to be a candle available in that scent. If you’d rather try an alternative to scented candles, check out our post here.
